Fall Calves and Garden

We found a couple more pumpkins hid under the leaves the other day.  Yesss I thought I would only get 6 or so.

Something must have made their bed in the garden there is a big spot of leaves smashed down.
Squash growing on top of a pumpkin. I should try and move it.

This might be a snake gourd and not a huge python gourd:) I'm assuming that they will get some color and curl to them as fall gets here.
We are fall calving now. It's a little hot for it, but I think if they talked to the cows that calved this spring in the snow they would consider themselves lucky. I know the guys that check them don't complain!!
They have plenty of grass to hide in. If those little calves aren't  careful they could find themselves right under the middle of a pickup!!! Not saying that happened and no calves where hurt if it did just sayin:)
 Just chillin

 These are last falls calves.
One had a sore foot and needed to be treated the other night.

So they all gathered round to see what would happen.
#51 orange if you could see the small writing on the bottom of the tag you would know he was born on Aug 31st. All the calves get their birthdate written on their tags.
Trying to start a baby quilt but I'm always being called out of the basement..............JMF

Ode to the neighbors chickens...........

I love taking pictures of these chickens!!

Lucas threw a piece of his banana out and they came running to check it out.
Some of the young ones the hen hatched and some Lucas hatched in his incubator he got for his birthday. come to think of it the ones Lucas hatched are still in their pen. To many to keep track of. I just know Greg will be eyeing the young roosters for the stew pot!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he will have to sneak in like a coyote to get one past Lucas:)

 Kindof windy  ruffled feathers:)
 Short tail feathers??

 One of the 2 roosters.
Last but not least my newest apron. Made from a towel so you will be seeing another one with a different tie.
Next post Ode to the fall calves big and small....................JMF

How does my garden grow?????

 Like crazy!!!

I see lots of squash in among the leaves and vines.

My tomato plant decided to take off too:)
These are the little gourd pumpkins last year I had little orange ones, these will stay white.

Lots of vines and blossoms but not alot of pumpkins. There are 3 bigger ones and a few little ones.

This is a snake gourd on the package it show them curly and colored, but this one just looks like a big fat anaconda or a python  that just had lunch!!
A little snake?? we'll see as time goes on what happens to them...........JMF

Busy Week......

We had 3 visitors the other morning. As you can see I wasn't a very good sneaker upper!!
She hardly took her eyes off me. I did manage to get alittle closer. They were standing in the hay field south of the house.
I didn't shoot him the red is a leaf that got in my way:)
 and then they were gone.
 Another messenger bag.

I have put the pattern away I need to move on!!
This is the first year that I entered pie in the contest at achievement days. My German Chocolate Pecan Pie took second place. Greg bought it back for me and it cost him plenty he didn't know that our DIL was bidding him up. LOL If I enter next year we will be watching her:) It is for a good cause so it was worth it.
My Peaches and Cream didn't place but brought over $200.00 so that was nice. I was told it was very tasty too. It is Greg's favorite pie.
 My aloe bloom.
The plant doesn't look so good in person. It takes it all summer to ajust to being outside and then it's time to come in. It came from Texas so I don't know why it can't take our heat. I think it's more the rain that gets it.
 Pretty Jade.
And now the sad news... someone??? pulled the weed up in the back of Greg's pickup!!! I do think it is alittle strange that it was left there and not on the ground. It was like someone had read my post about it and knew I said " I thought I would find it laying on the ground by the pickup."  So they left in the box for me to find. When I asked a certain someone they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about he just said he was keeping his pickup clean:)

Oh lookie here there's grass growing in the same pickup box. I think flowers would look better........JMF
