Family

I 'm not sure when this was taken of our parents, but I love the picture.
And here's what happened all because of them!!!!!!!!
I had white and sliver glasses wow!!!!!!!! pointed too good thing the pictures isn't that clear. I remember the dresses that Carla and Amy are wearing. We had names for some of our dresses the pork and bean dress (what with us and pork n beans sandwiches , dresses???) those were Ellen's and mine, matching wow, and our Easter ones were balloon dresses. What can I say we must have been hard up for entertainment!!  I made a bunch of ornaments out of the old pictures for mom and dad one year, now they are mine.
Mom's favorite bird was the cardinal I found this little bird and metal sign at R&R makes a nice little shrine to her.
Miss you mom and dad.  JMF

Happy New Year!!

2010 is going out like a lion what a windy, snowy day. Thankful I don't have to be out in it.
The next picture isn't the best but I have a different setting for my pictures and it's hard to find the one I want, need to get it worked on. Anyway I got these from a good friend and I love them they are so cute. It is a cowboy nativity. Thanks again Sue.
I think one of the grandsons took this picture but there are the 3 wise men a shepherd, angel, Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus.

New magazine from my sister.

I got this in the mail today what a fun magazine. It has lots of reading not so much ads. I think I will be trying some of the soups and crafts.
The first thing I showed Greg was a Chicken house with  wheels and a screened in pen hooked on. It held up to 10 chickens. I thought Greg should build me one anyway don't ask to borrow eggs because the answer was no!!! Thats ok  I never like gathering eggs as a kid any way. You know that is where I became so scared of mice and rats. Our neighbor and dad would clean out under where the chickens roosted. They would put big rubber bands on the bottom of their pants to keep anything from running up their pant legs. We had a little rat terrier dog and he was right in there too. At the end there was a big pile (to a kid anyway) of dead mice and rats. So now I always think if I see a mouse it will run up my pant leg and you will have to visit me in Yankton (if you know what I mean) Nuts!!!!!!!!!!!
But the magazine is cool thanks Ellen!
Try and conquer your fears.......JMF

New Sewing Machine

hey one night santa was sleeping in his chair watching tv??? (is that possible) I think only men can do that. Anyway I thought I should help out santa he was getting behind with his Christmas shopping....so I ordered a new sewing machine isn't online great!!
Isn't she pretty anyway, I have a grace frame and am using it on that to machine quilt my quilts speaking of that is the first one done on it.
I don't remember how long ago I made this top but several years. I was trying to use up some of my chicken fabric collection. So I got it done now I don't have anything for the binding. I wonder if I would  be able to find black fabric online ha ha.
An old dump truck of the kids in our backyard, works as a birdfeeder, one day there was close to 10 Blue Jays eating fun to watch.

More Stockings

The grandsons  picked out fabric for their stockings and for mom and dad.
Mom and Dads, I don't know if you can see but on her bow is a red cowboy boot. I told the boys she's a good cook, but she's a cowgirl too because she likes to help with the cattle! Us moms aren't just maids!
John's I don't know what he likes best hunting or cattle!
Luke's just like big brother we call them Pete and Repeat!
The grandkids, Kordell, Dane, and Ellie  have stocking their mom made for them  out of blue jeans with their names stitched on them. So now everyone is ready for Santa!

Feldhaus Sign

Greg had this idea to make a sign so we brought one of the cedar trees to the yard dug a hole and there you go! He burned the name into the cedar planks. It was to cold so I just took the picture from the door I'll update it when it warms up alittle!!

Catching up

I had a busy last week getting ready for our family Christmas only to have the weather postpone it for us. That's life in SD. Anyway here are a few things I  did other than cleaning and cooking.
I bought the kit for this quilt when we went to Rapid City to the stock show last year. I got it sewed together and then started hand quilting it and didn't like it so it got put aside. Then our niece had a baby girl Reese Ann so I took out the hand quilting and machine quilted it. It is ready for her when the weather permits a family get together.

My daughter emailed and asked if I could make stockings for the kids by Sat. So I got busy and got them done only to have the weather stop the kids from coming. The weather is such a fun wrecker!!
This little tag along quilt I made some years ago for our 1st grandchild. I just got a picture of it (one that I could find anyway)! I have made each of the grandkids little quilts like this one just different designs.
So now its off to the basement to finish the cowboy to go with Mary's cowgirl. pics later!

Should have been my 1st post

I named my blog after Davie Ramsey's favorite saying (I think) anyway he says it all the time " Better than I deserve". Most days when I get up I feel the same way. I think about my family, our farm, and our life together and I don't know what I ever did to deserve it. But I'm not giving it up that's for sure!!
  Very Blessed

Mary's Cowgirl

Some friends  (really cousins) of ours got moved into their log home. I stopped by the other day to check it out and it is beautiful I love it. This is what I gave her. I made a cowgirl wall hanging and will show it in stages.
I sewed the background together and cut out all the parts to her.
Then iron her on to the background. She's already looking cute!
Now to sew her down through the batting and the backing. When you do that the quilting is done at the same time.
Trying out some bling for her.Heart shaped button for her belt buckle and some sliver trim to go down her jeans.
Now the binding almost done!
Now I just need to accent her boots and add a rope. What kind of cowgirl doesn't have a rope?
There's her rope!!
Mary seemed to like her. I guess I will make a cowboy for Danny and they can hang out together!!  Unless Mary puts her Little Joe Cartwright doll in the same room! Then I think Danny will have some competition!!!
I enjoyed making her it's fun to see them come to life before your eyes.
Bye for now jmf

Tree update

Well our trees went from 3 to 8 to 10! I think I have enough trees to mow around. They do look nice. The second time we went back we had our grandson with us and the tree guy dug  up a little tree and gave him for his very own. Very nice of him. Lucas was very happy to show it off when he got home.
I think that's the last of the tree posts until next spring I might have to gripe a little about mowing and trimming,  oh I guess I do that anyway! Maybe I didn't mention it's not my favorite thing to do. I do like having something green to look at in the winter instead of brown or white (snow) ha.

Moving cows home

After two days of snow and lots and lots of wind it's nicer today. We herded some cows home today. Everything went pretty good they went the wrong way a couple of times, but they are heifers and don't know the way home yet!!!
wrong way girls!! When they came to the next intersection I was taking pictures out the side of the pickup and looked in front and they were coming towards me so I jumped out and started waving my arms! "no girls you are going the wrong way!!!!"
Finally they made it home, but then wasn't sure they wanted to be there so some more arm waving. Look at that snow I'm not ready for that yet.
 Happy trick or treating everyone.

Back to the baby quilt and the PBR

This is the picture I was trying to get on the last post.
I watched the finals of the PBR (professional bull riding) this week and it ended today, but not with the guy that I wanted to win!
Like Father Paul said in church today be grateful for all our blessings and share them with others. Have a good week!! jmf

Baby quilt

It's finished well except for the label on the back. It got alittle big for a baby quilt I guess he will have to grow into it.

I have a passion for western fabric!! Hope I get my stash of it all sewn into something someday.
I was trying to upload another pic of the quilt but it's not working so I guess I better get to work.  Later jmf

Planting trees.

We bought 3 spruce trees to plant in our yard. They were about 5 to 6 feet tall and came with easy to plant instructions!! Well you know that never turns out as planned. Our son started out helping then he got a call to help a neighbor that had his combine stuck, but wait another neighbor is driving by yes he's stopping! He digs right in and in no time the tree is planted. One down 2 to go. Its late so they wait til tomorrow. Then it's just me and the one that wanted the trees in the first place!! So here we go one more done the 3rd got planted later that day. They do look nice. We both love trees so the backache and sore neck will fade to black!
